Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film is typically a multi-layer co-extruded film produced by first forming a sheet through co-extrusion of polypropylene granules, followed by stretching in both longitudinal and transverse directions. This molecular orientation provides excellent physical stability, mechanical strength, and gas barrier properties, along with high transparency and gloss. The film is tough and wear-resistant, making it widely used in printing applications, with common thickness ranging from 20 to 40 μm, of which 20 μm is the most widely used.

The main drawback of BOPP film is its poor heat sealability, which is why it is generally used as the outer layer in composite films, such as when laminated with polyethylene (PE) film. This combination offers ideal moisture barrier properties, transparency, strength, stiffness, and printability, making it suitable for packaging dry foods.
